AGM and other matters

Hi,

Well the season may have finished for most of you, but for those involved in the admin things are still very busy as we sort out all the affiliation, league documents, pitch requests and required papers for next season.  It is also the month for League and other AGMs which we are obliged to attend, and of course preparation for our own AGM (see below).  Additionally this year we are required to be involved in the forthcoming disciplinary changes that will hit all amateur clubs next season (more at our AGM), and on Monday I will be plugged into a live video conference from Wembley for two hours of my evening!

However, I did also want to take the time to update you with a couple of things at a more local level and some important dates.

 Dinner & Season Reviews

Firstly I wanted to thank all of those who helped make our dinner such a fantastic event this year.  It really was a fantastic evening, and many of you have commented on the positive vibes that were abundant that night, and it makes me very proud to be associated with this club, knowing how much it means to so many.  The pinnacle of the evening was the award of the 50 Years FA medal to our President Mike Teare, which was so well deserved, and so fitting that it be awarded at such a positive event for the club.  The medal is to be re-awarded at the SAL Dinner this Friday, and is something the SAL is very proud about – so well done Mike.

A couple of you asked about the books which contained the Captain’s season reviews and club stats.  These can be made available to anyone who wants one, and all I ask if you would like one is that you make a donation to club funds, I suggest £1 for a soft copy or £2 for a printed bound copy.  Please get in touch with me if you would like a copy in either format.

Annual General Meeting Tuesday 28th June

This year’s AGM will  be held on Tuesday 28th June commencing at 7:30pm at our normal home ground, Kent County Cricket Club, Worsley Bridge Road, Beckenham, Kent.  This is possibly the most important evening of the year for the club, where every member has the opportunity to have their say, and where club officials and captains are confirmed in their posts etc. so I would commend as many of you as possible to come along and be part of deciding how the club goes forward.

Papers will be distributed before the evening, but if you have any agenda items you would like raised at the meeting, then please let myself and/or Roy know.  Similarly if you would like to stand in any capacity either in an on-field or administrative capacity then again please contact either Roy or myself.  We are always on the lookout for anyone who wishes to help the club, so can discuss potential roles with you if you are unsure what you could or would want to do to support us. Ideally we would want all nominations etc for all positions to be with us at least 7 days before the meeting itself.

Five-a-side tournament

We are considering holding a five-a-side tournament sometime this summer for the whole club, with teams mixed as to ability, making it a real club occasion.  Before we go too deeply into planning, it would be good to get feedback on this and perhaps anyone interested in participating could let either myself or Roy know.

Vets Side

We are considering entering a vets side into the AFA Veterans cup next season.  A “vet” is classed as anyone over the age of 40, so we have a good few around, and hope to entice some of our former players who might want an occasional run out (of course our season might be just 1 game!!!!) to come back and play for the club in this respect.  Again if you are interested, please let myself/Roy know so we can gauge support for this.
